I'm precisely what you think I am and I'm nothing like what you think I am.

The boring stuff: I work for an accounting firm. I'm going to school part time for a finance degree. I'm married, no kids, one cat. I think Ben Bernanke's name is pretty fun to say out loud but that's just me. I write, have one short story published a long time ago and if anything else gets published, I'll certainly mention it. What do I write? Science fiction, fantasy, cyberpunk and mysteries.

The stuff that is probably boring but just is: I am loud. I am decisive. I am sometimes wrong; gloriously so upon occasion and you'll see it from time to time in this LJ. I am intense. I am lazy. I work hard. I am opinionated. I will make them let me. I like what I like, I don't like what I don't like and if you want me to change my mind, be logical and present data. Charts and graphs are pretty to look at, too.

I got turned on to books in the 3rd grade and am still an avid reader. Zilpha Keatley Snyder and C. S. Lewis were the first authors I read and I still remember them fondly.

I'm child-free by choice but I am not rabid about it. I think kids are pretty neat but I like having the freedom to pick up and go without having to worry about kids. I'm set in my ways like that. I think breast-feeding is completely natural and nothing to be freaked out about.

Which brings me to politics (because childfree breastfeeding ALWAYS makes people think about politics, right?). You knew this was coming. I'm a gun tottin' fiscally conservative, socially liberal, tree-hugging, states rights Democrat.

Abortion should be safe and remain legal. Gay marriage should be made legal and safe. Prayer has no place in school, in government or in my bedroom (unless it's The Great Rite and that's a totally different thing). Sex education should include explicit information about sex and contraception and not insist that abstinence is the only option. This country was founded, in part, to eliminate the influence of religion on the state and I'm pretty sure the founders would rise up and dope slap everyone if that ever changed. Anyone who has a problem with that agenda should probably not read this journal.

Yes, I'm a feminist. Duh.

I am a gamer. I was converted to the light side in 1977. I was the only girl in a DnD gaming group who met after school. I loved it! Unfortunately, I don't have much time for it anymore. I enjoy PnP, LARPing, chat RP, RPGs, Warhammer 40k, Magic the Gathering and MMOs.

I lurk on the edges of fandom and make a habit of attending BayCon each year. It's like going home and being with family.

I'm also a pagan but do not follow a specific tradition. This is an area that is a Work in Progress for me. No, I have not been initiated. No, I don't know so-and-so in Bumfuck, Ohio who is a witch. And no, it is not a Star of David. You know that as well as I do.

I suffer from depression. Sometimes I'm fine, sometimes, the cloud covers me so fast and with such sinister stealth I have no idea I'm depressed until I come smack up against it and have to claw my way back out. I am not currently on any medication but I have been one with the Prozac Nation and numbered Count Busparavich (anti-anxiety drug Buspar) among my friends. One of THE most valuable lessons I learned about anxiety attacks? By the time you feel it it's too late to 'stop' and all you can do is practice whatever exercises you've learned to mitigate the anxiety and let it pass. Think of the Litany of Fear and Frank Herbert and you'll get the idea.

There is danger from all men. The only maxim of a free government ought to be to trust no man living with power to endanger the public liberty. - John Adams

I bookmarked this. So when I feel like things aren't going optimally in my life, I can remind myself that I'm not writing softcore porn with children's characters and then fighting with strangers about it. - comment on MetaFilter regarding 'The Affair of the Sock Puppet' or 'Ms Scribe - An Unauthorized Biography'

I've been watching my parents-in-law go over that cliff in the last few years. If there's a lesson I've learned from the experience it's this: make sure that the experience of your life means something to you, so that the ending of it doesn't become an unrelieved tragedy. - Bruce Cohen on Making Light
